VALENTINES SHOWCASE COUNTDOWN...

Brooklyn - we go hard! Tiara Chameleon and I have been working night and day non stop ever since my return home from Miami. Once we got it in our heads that we wanted to do a lil something special for Valentine's Day, we have been at it wround the clock to make it a reality. As we are both over-acheivers however, our collaboration collection started small - and has not turned into a showcase of over 20 styled looks in addition to samples to sell. Sequins, frills, silk chiffons, tafettas, toulle, ostrich and leather... you name it and we've incorporated it. Thinking smart and economical of course, we were able to make tons of use out of lots of vintage fabric and trims I've been collecting ever since highschool. We are excited to say the least and will be very proud to share the final pieces with you...

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT...

It's back to the drawing board...literally. After 2 seasons of styling and ful-filling custom design orders, I'm finally comfortable enough to return back to my roots. Im a designer damnit! And it's alllllllll about the bigger picture now. Getting back to sketching and my collection. For awhile now, I've been accustomed to a sampling process in which I only whip up one of a kind pieces and produce small runs of those looks for clients...basically on a made to order routine. But now I'm back to thinking bigger and better and collections bring home the 'bread and butta' when samples may only bring home the bacon. You feel me? So these are just a few snap shots of the design details I've gathered on my mood boards to get me warmed up...you will be following me on this journey I presume...so stay tuned for more product updates!

I'M IN LOVE WITH A STRANGER.

I came across this shot on Supreme Freak - a blog that posts the best 'high fashion soft porn' type editorial. While fishing through all the skin and eye candy, this jacket stopped me dead in my tracks!!!! Who it's by? I dunno. But what I do know is it was love at first sight, cuz I get butterflies every time I look at it...ahhh.

GRACE JONES >>> 'BUTCH DIVA' PROTOTYPE.

Just in time for the realease of her new album, Grace reunites with art director legend, Jean-Paul Goude, for a new image and some keep it real conversation...

"JEAN-PAUL GOUDE: Would you agree that you have always had a problem with authority?
GRACE JONES: Yes, definitely. I was born into a very religious family where everything was about setting the right example for the community and having to obey orders blindly. I felt that everyone was growing up in the world, except me. This is probably one of the reasons why I had such a rebellious attitude towards any form of authority. I also systematically associated authority with masculinity. With one exception: my great grandmother, who I actually saw chase and beat up my great uncle, the bishop of Jamaica. She was 98 at the time and 6 feet tall. Sure the bishop was her son, but still…"

THE "9-5".

So believe it or not - like most aspiring artists these days, I too maintain a '9-5' that pays the bills. Fortunately my '9-5' is another passion - Interior Design, and it's part-time, allowing me to make my own schedule and still focus on managing BUTCH DIVA. I work for a high-end Interior Design firm that caters to the social elite and even other designers. One of our biggest clients is in fact Liz Claiborne {now run by Isaac Mizrahi}. We re-do the sectioning decor of their showroom every market season. With a quick turn-over, we are usually the first they call to get the job done...and when I say get the job done - that translates to 'by any means necessary'!!! This one particular installation required me to sew 40 yards of heavy canvas that was over 120" in width...without cutting it because no seams allowed!!!! If you are - or know a seamstress - then you can easily understand the challenge in making this work! But who makes it happen tho? Yours truly.
